Tribute & Message From The Family

James E. Hynes, a longtime Melrose resident, passed away peacefully at home with family by his side on Sunday, March 7, 2021, at age 92.

James was born in Winchester on October 3, 1928, one of six children of the late Edwin J. Hynes and Caroline C. (Keaney) Hynes. Raised in Stoneham, he was a graduate of St. Patrick's High School. Jim began his working career in Warehouse Distribution Shipping and Receiving. He later enjoyed his work in Customer Service and Maintenance for Woburn Foreign Motors for many years. A member of the "Greatest Generation," Jim was a hardworking, humble and self-reliant family man.

Jim settled in Melrose with his wife Bernice, and started a family. He resided in the same home for 65 years, and was proud of his home, enjoyed his neighbors, and community. He was a very faithful parishioner of Most Blessed Sacrament Church for many years. Most of all, Jim was devoted and loyal to his family, and quietly served as the family caregiver for both his mother and sister. Strong willed and independent, Jim had simple needs and put others first without hesitation. He centered his life around his family, his faith, and his home. He will be deeply missed, but always lovingly remembered.

Jim was the beloved husband of the late Bernice H. (Arsenault) Hynes with whom he shared 44 years of marriage. Devoted father of Janet M. Oliver and her husband Rick of Wilmington. Dear brother of the late Dorothy Hynes, Grace Hynes, Helen Renda, Edwin "Johnny" Hynes, and Mary Sheehan. Loving grandfather of Adam and Paul Oliver, both of Wilmington. Also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors.

Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Thursday, March 11 from 9:15-10:15am before leaving in procession to Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield for his Funeral Mass celebrated at 11am. All attendees are respectfully asked to wear masks, and maintain social distancing. Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose. Donations in Jim's memory can be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, shrinershospitalsforchildren.org, 51 Blossom St, Boston, MA 02114.
